You’ve got a baby but you’ve got work too. This proves to be a situation which gets every mother in a fix. At Koru Kids, they completely get the situation and promise to provide you the nanny that you exactly want. Being a nanny isn’t an easy job. One can’t trust just anyone with their baby, right? Koru Kids makes sure that they choose the best people around the area, who are well suited for this job. How? They select only about 10% of the applicants of the job.
Founded by Rachael Carrell, it promises to bring you the best childcare you could ask for. She herself had a baby to take care of while having to work. Many of her friends, she noticed had the same problem. Many mothers thus had to quit their jobs for taking care of their toddlers. Carrell did just the same.
Only, she quit the job for setting up Koru Kids, with an investment of £600,000 in seed funding, with co-founder, Michael Pennington, among the initial investors. Currently over a thousand nannies pick up children from schools in London every day. Last August, it has been successful in raising a new funding of about £10 million, bringing the total amount raised by Koru Kids, to £14.1 million!
The services they provide are of two kinds. One, the nannies work for two homes at the same time, taking care of babies and toddlers of both families together, which creates a fun environment for the little ones, while creating a win-win situation for the nannies as well. Each of the families pays the nanny a third less, while the nanny earns 25% more, overall. The second service of theirs is for the nannies after-school. They are University students who are specially trained by the staff themselves. They are trained in paediatric first aid, educational philosophies, homework and background checks.
You also do get to choose what you’re looking for. You mention what you want and you get bios of all the nannies that match your demands. So, it pretty much is like online dating, as per Coles, who works in financial services. In addition to this, they’ve even launched a free ‘family finder’ to help them match families so they can share their nanny.
The organisation currently has a greater number of nannies in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. This is explained by the interest of the people that age driven by their confidence, commitment and calm. This comes from the experience they’ve already had as mother to their own babies, and the thought of what kind of care they’d want their own children to receive, had they been little then.
This start up is certainly growing pretty fast, doubling its staff since December, 2018. It aims to expand even outside the locality, to extend the help of trustworthy nannies at affordable rates, whom children would absolutely love to spend time with! While parents are absolutely in love with the nannies the organisation sends them, the nannies themselves also do have a whale of a time with a family they get!
