SkillsCamp

There’s a growing need for soft-skills and it is rare to find a company that is dedicated to developing their client’s needs when it comes to communication skills. SkillsCamp is a soft-skills training company and is making new strides when it comes to helping people develop their soft-skills. Heralded by Bailey Parnell, the Founder, and CEO, SkillsCamp moves forward with the mission to equip people with the soft skills needed for professional success.

Bailey is named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network. In addition, she is also an honors graduate of the RTA School of Media. She is also an award-winning digital marketer, TEDx speaker and businesswoman with a talent for helping people and brands narrate stories that penetrate into the public. She set up SkillsCamp to help businesses develop the essential skills needed for success, such as personal branding, productivity, emotional intelligence and more.

Bailey grew up in Brampton in a large family of 9. She used to have a lot of fun with her 5 sisters as a child. Bailey guest lectured her first MBA class at 21 and has been the youngest speaker at multiple conferences.

As an adult, Bailey used to work full-time at Ryerson University until she started her own company. She used to work as a Student Affairs in a Special Projects department responsible for research, assessment, storytelling, and design. She strongly believes that her work in Ryerson gave her the push and skillset needed to establish her own company.

Previously, she has also worked in social media marketing at CBC and Bell Media, assisted instructors in Seneca College’s Social Media: Graduate Certificate Program; and has worked as a local news reporter on Rogers TV. Her work and expertise have also been featured on CBC, CTV, Flare Magazine and more.

A problem presented itself and I thought I was the best person to solve it. There is a need for soft skills, yet a noticeable absence of training in traditional education. With a background in higher education, marketing, and speaking career, paired with an entrepreneurial mindset and soft skills like time-management and relationship-building, I started SkillsCamp.” says Bailey on starting her company.

Education is of prime importance to bailey. I quite literally own an education company. She believes that higher education is more than just the content of the syllabi. and can essentially teach a person how to think, how to learn, how to research, how to grab opportunities, connections, and invaluable experiences. Even though Bailey doesn’t explicitly work in media anymore, she says that it gave an edge at SkillsCamp.

SkillsCamp has been a door-opener to meet some incredible people over the last couple of years. I’m particularly grateful for all of the successful, intelligent, and passionate women I’ve met. They have become role models, motivation, and inspiration. It is important to see yourself reflected in positions of power, and SkillsCamp has helped me see many more women in those positions. It is also fulfilling to hear you’ve become that inspiration for other women as well.” says Bailey.

She also currently works in digital marketing at Ryerson University, Canada’s leader in innovative, career-focused education. She is frequently spotted speaking about social media, personal branding, media, and mental health. She is currently working towards her MA in Communications and Culture, part-time at Ryerson University.
